About Us

The BCDA aims to highlight, honor, inspire, empower and support costume designers of color across stage, television, and film platforms. The BCDA creates a pathway to exciting new opportunities, with the creation of a "Go-To", robust and diverse directory, linking our powerhouse members directly to industry decision-makers.

Supporting and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the business is a must. The Entertainment Industry is stronger when the full spectrum of our humanity is embraced.

The Mission

The Black Costume Designer Alliance was launched in 2020, as a response to the imbalance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, at every level, in the Entertainment Industry. There is a lack of awareness of the immense talents, sheer numbers, and major contributions provided by an array of dynamic, black costume designers in the entertainment industry. The BCDA’s mission is to create a global movement aimed, at leveling the playing field and creating fair & equal opportunities for all costume designers, regardless of background.

"Diversity Of Thought, Culture, Background, And Perspective will spark change and create parity and equity in the Entertainment Industry for Costume Designers of Color. It was my desire that the BCDA be the ultimate opportunity for members to experience uncharted opportunities, speak openly, and be bold, in ways that foster new direction, inclusion, and growth."
